A plaque is riveted on the side with either 'S' or 'P' and the riveted handle is left unpolished for better gripping. They both have nickel-lined interiors and a plastic plug on the underside for filling with salt or pepper. The shakers have a nice weight to them and the hole patterns are identical. Lacquers are used to prevent tarnishing and to maintain the polished look.
